Matthew 26:4-5
– v. 5: The leaders decided not to arrest Jesus during the feast, saying, Lest there be an uproar among the people. They were afraid of the crowd, who respected Jesus as a prophet, and did not want to cause a riot. Their decision was not based on respect for God or the holiness of the feast, but on fear of losing their own power. This reveals how their actions were guided by self-interest rather than genuine devotion to God (Proverbs 29:25 a).
