Matthew 3:9
v. 9: John warned them not to trust in their family background or religious heritage. He said, “Do not say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’” Being a descendant of Abraham would not save them from judgment. God could raise up children for Abraham from stones if he wished. This means that God cares about a person’s heart and actions, not just their ancestry or traditions (Luke 3:8 a).
