Matthew 5:4
v. 4: Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4 a). Jesus says that those who mourn—especially over their own sins and the brokenness in the world—are blessed. God sees their sorrow and will comfort them, both in this life and especially in the life to come. This mourning is not about being sad all the time, but about having a serious heart that is sorry for sin and cares about others’ suffering. God promises comfort to such people.
