We should look for good qualities in people, even our enemies, and want what is best for them. v. 45: Jesus gives a reason for this command: That you may be children of your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:45 ^c). God shows kindness to everyone. He sends sunshine and rain to both good and evil people. These everyday blessings are gifts from God, who is generous and patient, even to those who do not deserve it. When we love our enemies, we are being like God and showing that we are his true children.
