‏ Numbers 11:5

v. 5: The people exaggerated the comforts of Egypt, remembering the food they ate there but ignoring the hardships of slavery. They spoke fondly of cucumbers, melons, and garlic, while forgetting the oppression and suffering they endured in Egypt. Their nostalgia was not based on reality but on their dissatisfaction with God’s provision (v. 5 a). This shows the danger of focusing on what we lack instead of being thankful for what we have. Moses prayed to God, and God stopped the fire. Moses was always willing to pray for the people, even when they had sinned. This shows that God does not enjoy punishing His people and is quick to forgive when they turn back to Him.
