‏ Proverbs 2:1

The Search after Wisdom Encouraged.

Solomon explains how we can find true wisdom. He answers the question asked in the book of Job: “Where shall wisdom be found?” (Job 28:12, 20 a). Solomon teaches us both where to look for wisdom and how to get it. He encourages us to use every means possible to gain wisdom, and promises that God will reward those who seek it with all their heart.

v. 1–2: To gain wisdom, we must pay close attention to God’s word. My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding (Proverbs 2:1–2 b). We should welcome God’s teachings, keep them in our hearts, and listen carefully whenever we hear His word. True wisdom comes from God’s revelation, and we must value it above all other knowledge.
