‏ Proverbs 24:12

v. 12: “If you say, ‘Surely we did not know this,’ does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?” . We might try to excuse ourselves by saying, "I did not know," or "I was not sure what to do." This might work with other people, because they cannot see our hearts. But God knows the truth. He sees our real reasons, whether we truly did not know or whether we just did not care enough to help. God knows our thoughts and watches over our lives (Jeremiah 17:10 a). He will judge us fairly, rewarding or punishing us according to what we have really done—including the good things we chose not to do. God expects us to care about others, just as He has cared for us.
