‏ Psalms 122:1-2

Joy in Worship and Praise for Jerusalem

This psalm highlights the happiness and excitement that David and other faithful Israelites felt when they could worship God together. David loved being called to the house of the Lord and wanted everyone to join him. Worshiping God in private is important, but coming together in public worship is God’s will. We should encourage each other to attend, saying, "Let us go together," because it helps us grow and honors God. When good people have opportunities to worship, they are glad and want to share those moments with friends (Zechariah 8:21 a).

v. 1–2: David says, I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord. Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem (Psalm 122:1-2 b). Being invited to worship is a joy, and just thinking about standing in Jerusalem, near God’s temple, makes the journey worthwhile. Even if it is hard to get there, being in God’s house brings great happiness (Psalm 84:10; Zechariah 3:7 c).
