Psalms 123:3-4
v. 3–4: The people pray, Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud (Psalm 123:3-4 a). They are suffering because others mock and look down on them. God’s people are often treated badly by those who are proud or comfortable in this world (Psalm 35:20; Lamentations 4:1-2 b; Job 12:5 c). But even when people scorn us, we can find comfort in God’s mercy. We do not demand what God should do, but simply ask for His mercy, trusting that He will help us in His time.
