v. 3: God commands rulers, “Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy”. Good leaders protect those who are weak, such as the poor, orphans, and anyone who cannot help themselves (Job 29:12 ^a). God wants rulers to be like him, caring for the helpless.

v. 4: He continues, “Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked”. Leaders must rescue people who are suffering or oppressed. They must stand up for those who have no one else to help them (Luke 18:3 ^b).
