3:8 ^h Paul was distressed by his present circumstances (3:7 ⁱ) and deeply concerned for the church (3:1 ^j, 5 ^k). He was relieved to learn that the Thessalonians remained strong and were standing firm in the Lord even though they were also suffering (2:14 ^l; 3:3-4 ^m).
