27:2  a The Bible permits a vow by the living God (Ruth 3:13  b; 1 Sam 20:21  c; 25:26  d; 1 Kgs 17:1  e; 18:15  f; Jer 4:2  g), although sometimes it is done foolishly or falsely (1 Sam 14:39  h, 45  i; Jer 5:2  j).

• Elihu later criticized Job for saying that God had taken away his rights (Job 34:5  k).

• embittered ... soul (7:11  l; 10:1  m; 21:25  n): Cp. Naomi (Ruth 1:20-21  o) and the widow from Shunem after the loss of her son (2 Kgs 4:27  p).
