‏ Genesis 39:6-18

Summary for Gen 39:6-10: 39:6-10  a One of the major motifs of wisdom literature (see study note on 37:2–50:26) is to warn young people that immorality will lead them to disaster (cp. Prov 5–7  b). Joseph was able to resist temptation because he had godly wisdom—he was guided by the fear of the Lord (Prov 1:7  c; 9:10  d).
39:14  e Though Potiphar’s wife was addressing slaves, she appealed to them as fellow Egyptians (us) to enlist them as witnesses against the despised Hebrew (see 43:32  f) who had won Potiphar’s trust.
