Job 22:26-30
22:27 a Ironically, Job will pray, God will hear, and Eliphaz will reap the benefits (42:8 b).• you will fulfill your vows: Vows were often stimulated by repentance and forgiveness (Hos 14:2 c; Jon 1:16 d; 2:9 e) and when seeking divine intervention (Judg 11:29-40 f; 1 Sam 1:1-28 g). Vows are binding (Num 30:2 h; Deut 23:23 i; Pss 22:25 j; 61:5 k, 8 l; 116:14 m, 18 n; Eccl 5:4-5 o).
22:29 p This difficult text probably conveys the effectiveness of a righteous man’s prayer. The principle (Pss 34:15 q, 17 r; 145:18 s; Prov 15:8 t, 29 u; Jas 5:16 v) is illustrated throughout Scripture (see, e.g., Gen 18:23-32 w; 19:29 x; 20:7 y, 17 z; 32:28 aa; Exod 9:28-32 ab; 17:11 ac; 32:10-14 ad; Rom 5:19 ae).
