22:27 ^a Ironically, Job will pray, God will hear, and Eliphaz will reap the benefits (42:8 ^b).

• you will fulfill your vows: Vows were often stimulated by repentance and forgiveness (Hos 14:2 ^c; Jon 1:16 ^d; 2:9 ^e) and when seeking divine intervention (Judg 11:29-40 ^f; 1 Sam 1:1-28 ^g). Vows are binding (Num 30:2 ^h; Deut 23:23 ⁱ; Pss 22:25 ^j; 61:5 ^k, 8 ^l; 116:14 ^m, 18 ⁿ; Eccl 5:4-5 ^o).
22:29 ^p This difficult text probably conveys the effectiveness of a righteous man’s prayer.
