Job 4:7-9
4:7 a Job probably counted his children among the innocent dead (1:5 b), and even Eliphaz must have known that innocent blood is sometimes shed (cp. Deut 19:10 c; Prov 6:17 d; Jer 7:6 e).4:8 f The harvest metaphor illustrates the scriptural principle that behavior merits judgment (Prov 22:8 g; Hos 8:7 h; Rom 2:9-11 i; Gal 6:7-8 j). The New Testament describes the final judgment as a harvest (Matt 13:39 k). Jesus rejected simplistic attempts to analyze people’s lives by this principle (Luke 13:4 l; John 9:1-3 m).
4:9 n They vanish in a blast of his anger: Eliphaz understood the wind of 1:19 o as divine judgment (cp. Isa 40:7 p; Hos 13:15 q).
