‏ Leviticus 4:13-21

4:15  a The Hebrew term for elders is related to the word for beard. It implies mature but not necessarily elderly individuals. They were leaders of the community—typically, heads of families and tribes (cp. Exod 18:21-26  b; Deut 22:15-19  c). For this offering, the elders represented the entire people, as they would later in anointing David as king (2 Sam 5:3  d).
4:20  e A similar form of the phrase they will be forgiven appears frequently in passages dealing with atonement (4:26  f, 31  g, 35  h; 5:10  i, 13  j, 16  k, 18  l; 6:7  m; 19:22  n; Num 15:25  o, 26  p, 28  q). God is willing to forgive a repentant person’s sin and restore him or her to the community of faith.
