‏ Luke 10:17-20

10:18  a I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! See Rev 12:7-12  b.
10:19  c Snakes and scorpions were symbols of danger and evil (see Num 21:6-9  d; Deut 8:15  e; 1 Kgs 12:14  f; Isa 11:8  g; Ezek 2:6  h). Satan is the ancient serpent who tempted Eve (Gen 3:15  i; Rom 16:20  j; Rev 12:9  k; 20:2  l), and demonic forces are described as scorpions (Rev 9:3-4  m).

• Nothing will injure you: This didn’t mean that Jesus’ followers should take dangerous chances. The point is that God protects his servants (e.g., Acts 28:3-6  n).
10:20  o Disciples should not rejoice in their spiritual power, but in the greatness of God who freely gives them salvation.

• your names are registered in heaven: For the record of salvation in heaven’s books, see Exod 32:32-33  p; Ps 69:28  q; Isa 4:3  r; Dan 12:1  s; Mal 3:16-17  t; Phil 4:3  u; Heb 12:23  v; Rev 3:5  w; 13:8  x; 17:8  y; 20:12  z, 15  aa; 21:27  ab.
