‏ Luke 21:12-17

Summary for Luke 21:12-19: 21:12-19  a a time of great persecution: Jesus described the persecution that his followers would experience (see also Matt 10:17-22  b; Mark 13:9  c). The Jewish literature of Jesus’ day similarly described a time of great tribulation prior to the arrival of God’s final salvation. 21:12  d dragged into synagogues: Jesus and his early followers were Jewish, and the earliest conflicts were with fellow Jews who did not accept Jesus as the Messiah. Jesus’ followers were sometimes tried in the synagogue before a Jewish tribunal (cp. 2 Cor 11:24  e).
21:15  f I will give you the right words: God often assured his prophets that he would give them the words to say (Exod 4:12  g, 15  h; Deut 18:18  i; Isa 50:4  j; 51:16  k; Jer 1:9  l). Jesus’ disciples were to prepare themselves to be clear witnesses (see Col 4:5-6  m; 2 Tim 2:21  n; 1 Pet 3:15  o), knowing that the Spirit would help them to respond as powerfully as Jesus had done (Luke 20:20-44  p).
21:16  q Families in Jewish and Gentile communities have often been divided as some members follow Jesus and some reject him.
