Summary for Luke 9:1-6: 9:1-6  a Jesus now sent his twelve disciples to announce the Kingdom of God and demonstrate its authority by casting out demons and healing the sick. Jesus was training them to carry on his work after he was gone.
9:3  b Take nothing for your journey: They were to live in dependence on God and on the charity of those to whom they ministered.
9:4  c stay in the same house: They were to develop lasting relationships and be content without seeking better lodging or provisions.
9:5  d shake its dust from your feet: Using a symbol of rejection, they were to leave such a town to the judgment it deserved.
