102:3 a Smoke is an image of transitory life (37:20 b; 68:2 c).• The psalmist’s bones represent his whole being (see 6:2 d; 34:19-22 e).
102:4 f Like dried grass, the psalmist senses his life ebbing away.
102:5 g skin and bones: The psalmist has wasted away because of his anguish (see 102:9 h; 109:24 i).
102:6 j The owl was associated with ruin and desolation (Isa 34:11 k, 15 l).
Summary for Ps 102:7-8: 102:7-8 m The psalmist cannot sleep (see 63:6-8 n). Like a bird on the roof, he feels isolated from both friends (see 88:8 o) and enemies.
