‏ Romans 10:1-4

10:2  a Zeal denotes a passionate and commendable commitment to God and his purposes (see Num 25:6-13  b). But in Paul’s day Jewish zeal was misdirected because it failed to understand that Jesus Christ is the pinnacle of God’s plan. (For Paul’s own misdirected zeal before his conversion to Christ, see Acts 9:1-2  c; Gal 1:13-14  d.)
10:3  e God’s way of making people right with himself: See 1:17  f; 3:21-26  g. Paul uses this phrase to explain Israel’s failure in terms basic to the gospel. God manifested his righteousness through the ministry of Christ, but most Jews did not understand it, partly because they were so focused on the law as a way of securing their own righteousness.
10:4  h The function of the law was to point forward and prepare the way for the Messiah; Jesus’ coming does not destroy the law but fulfills all of its requirements, so that the primary requirement for God’s people is to believe in him (see 3:31  i; Matt 5:17-18  j).
