• he wanted his own people to become jealous: The theme of jealousy comes from Deut 32:21 ^e, which Paul quoted in Rom 10:19 ^f. The sight of Gentiles enjoying the blessings of salvation that God had promised to Israel would spur Jews to desire salvation so they could participate in those blessings as well.
