Exodus 25:10-22
an ark.{Aron} denotes a chest, or coffer, in general; but is applied particularly to the chest or ark in which the testimony or two tables of the covenant were laid up; on the top of which was the propitiatory or mercy seat; and at the end of which were the cherubim of gold; between whom the visible sign of the presence of God appeared as seated upon his throne. 37:1-3; De 10:1-3; 2Ch 8:11; Heb 9:4; Re 11:19 24; 30:3; 1Ki 6:20; 2Ch 3:4 15,26; 26:29; 27:7; 37:5; 38:7 28; 27:6; 30:5; 37:4; 40:20; Nu 4:6,8,11,14; 1Ch 15:15 14 1Ki 8:8; 2Ch 5:9 16:34; 27:21; 30:6,36; 31:18; 32:15; 34:29; 38:21; Nu 17:4De 10:2-5; 31:26; 1Ki 8:9; 2Ki 11:12; 2Ch 34:14,15; Ac 7:44; Ro 3:2Heb 9:4 mercy seat.26:34; 37:6; 40:20; Le 16:12-15; 1Ch 28:11; Ro 3:25; Heb 4:16; 9:51Jo 2:2 two cherubims of gold.37:7-9; Ge 3:24; 1Sa 4:4; 1Ki 6:23-28; 8:6,7; 1Ch 28:18Eze 10:2,20; 41:18,19; Heb 9:5 of the. or, of the matter of the. cherubims shall.18; 1Ki 8:7; 1Ch 28:18; 2Ch 3:10covering.Eze 28:14toward.Ge 28:12; Isa 6:1-5; Eze 1:20; Mt 24:31; Joh 1:51; 1Co 4:9; 11:10Eph 3:10; Col 2:10; Heb 1:14; 1Pe 1:12; 3:22; Re 5:11,12 mercy seat.17; 26:34; Ro 10:4in.16 and I will.20:24; 30:6,36; 31:18; Ge 18:33; Le 1:1; 16:2; Nu 7:89; 17:4De 5:26-31; Jud 20:27between.29:42,43; 31:6; 1Sa 4:4; 2Sa 6:2; 2Ki 19:15; Ps 80:1; 90:1; 99:1Isa 37:16 Exodus 37:1-9

This makes a good sense, while the former makes none: the LXX. have the same reading here, [en ischui, kai en odais.] Nachon's.1Ch 13:9he is called Chidon. put forth.Even the Kohathites, who were appointed to carry the ark, after it was covered by the priests, were forbidden to touch it on pain of death; but Uzzah, who certainly was no priest, probably with some degree of irreverence, having presumed to lay his hand upon the ark, which perhaps was not covered, thus incurred the penalty due to his rashness.
