Jesus Heals a Boy with a Demon

14 aAnd when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him,
15said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he bhas seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water.
16And I brought him to your disciples, and cthey could not heal him.”
17And Jesus answered, O faithless and dtwisted generation, how long am I to be with you? eHow long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.”
18And Jesus frebuked the demon,

came out of him, and ithe boy was healed instantly.

19Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”
20He said to them, kBecause of your little faith. For ltruly, I say to you, mif you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, nyou will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and onothing will be impossible for you.”

14 tAnd when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.
15And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, uwere greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him.
16And he asked them, What are you arguing about with them?”
17And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has va spirit that makes him mute.
18And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and wthey were not able.”
19And he answered them, O xfaithless generation, yhow long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.”
20And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it zconvulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.
21And Jesus asked his father, How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
22And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But aaif you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
23And Jesus said to him, ab“‘If you can’! acAll things are possible for one who believes.”
24Immediately the father of the child cried out

25And when Jesus saw that afa crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, ag“You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26And after crying out and ahconvulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.”
27But Jesus aitook him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
28And when he had ajentered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
29And he said to them, This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”

31for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, amafter three days he will rise.”
32 anBut they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

Jesus Heals a Boy with an Unclean Spirit

37 aoOn the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him.
38And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for aphe is my only child.
39And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him so that he foams at the mouth, and shatters him, and will hardly leave him.
40And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but aqthey could not.”
41Jesus answered, O arfaithless and twisted generation, ashow long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.”
42While he was coming, the demon threw him to the ground and convulsed him. But Jesus atrebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and augave him back to his father.
43And all were astonished at avthe majesty of God.

Jesus Again Foretells His Death

awBut while they were all marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus

said ayto his disciples,
44“Let these words sink into your ears: azThe Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.”
45 baBut they did not understand this saying, and bbit was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
