The Call of Wisdom20 a Wisdom cries aloud in the street,
in the markets she raises her voice;
21at the head of the noisy streets she cries out;
at b the entrance of the city gates she speaks:
22“How long, O c simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will d scoffers delight in their scoffing
and fools e hate knowledge?
23If you turn at my reproof ▼
▼Or Will you turn away at my reproof?
behold, I will g pour out my spirit to you;
I will make my words known to you.
The Value of Wisdom1 h My son, i if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
2making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding;
3yes, if you call out for insight
and raise your voice j for understanding,
4if you seek it like k silver
and search for it as for l hidden treasures,
5then m you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6For n the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
Proverbs 9:4-64 o “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!”
p To him who lacks sense she says,
5“Come q eat of my bread
and r drink of s the wine I have mixed.
6Leave t your simple ways ▼
▼Or Leave the company of the simpleand v live,
w and walk in the way of insight.”
Micah 4:22and many nations shall come, and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways
and that we may walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law ▼
and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
Matthew 9:1313Go and learn y what this means z ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For aa I came not to call the righteous ab but sinners.”
Matthew 11:29-3029Take my yoke upon you, and ac learn from me, for I am ad gentle and lowly in heart, and ae you will find rest for your souls. 30For af my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Luke 11:1313If you then ag who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father ah give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
