Preaching of John the Baptist

1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, ^athe Son of God,

2 ^bjust as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:
“ ^cBehold, I am sending My messenger ^{▼▼Lit before your face}before You,
Who will prepare Your way;
3 ^eThe voice of one calling ^{▼▼Or out, Prepare in the wilderness the way} out in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
Make His paths straight!’”

4 John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, ^{▼▼Or proclaiming} ^hpreaching a baptism of repentance for the ⁱforgiveness of sins.
