Romans 12
Dedicated Service
1 Therefore aI urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to bpresent your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, ▼▼Or pleasing
acceptable to God, which is your ▼▼I.e., in contrast to offering a literal sacrifice
spiritual service of worship. 2And do not ebe conformed to fthis ▼▼Or age
world, but be transformed by the hrenewing of your mind, so that you may ▼▼Or discover
jprove what the will of God is, that which is good and ▼▼Or pleasing
acceptable and perfect. 3 For through lthe grace given to me I say to everyone among you mnot to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to neach a measure of faith. 4For ojust as we have many parts in one body and all ▼▼Lit the parts
the body’s parts do not have the same function, 5so we, qwho are many, are rone body in Christ, and individually parts of one another. 6However, since we have gifts that sdiffer according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them properly: if tprophecy, ▼▼Or in agreement with the faith
in proportion to one’s faith; 7if ▼▼Or office of service
wservice, in the act of serving; or the one who xteaches, in the act of teaching; 8or the one who ▼▼Or encourages
zexhorts, in the work of ▼▼Or encouragement
exhortation; the one who gives, with ▼▼Or sincere concern
acgenerosity; adthe one who ▼▼Or provides care
is in leadership, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with afcheerfulness. 9 ▼▼Or Love has no
ahLove must be free of hypocrisy. aiDetest what is evil; cling to what is good. 10Be ajdevoted to one another in brotherly love; ▼▼Or outdo one another in showing honor
give preference to one another alin honor, 11not lagging behind in diligence, amfervent in spirit, anserving the Lord; 12 aorejoicing in hope, appersevering in tribulation, aqdevoted to prayer, 13 arcontributing to the needs of the ▼▼Lit holy ones; i.e., God’s people
saints, ▼▼Lit pursuing
aupracticing hospitality. 14 avBless those who persecute ▼▼Two early mss do not contain you
you; bless and do not curse. 15 axRejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 ayBe of the same mind toward one another; azdo not be ▼▼Or arrogant
haughty in mind, but ▼▼Or accommodate yourself to lowly things
associate with the lowly. bcDo not be wise in your own estimation. 17 bdNever repay evil for evil to anyone. ▼▼Lit Take thought for
bfRespect what is right in the sight of all people. 18If possible, bgso far as it depends on you, bhbe at peace with all people. 19 biNever take your own revenge, beloved, but ▼▼Lit give a place
leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “ bkVengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20“ blBut if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
