(NIV)
Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High,
(ESV)
And
Melchizedek king of
Salem brought out bread and
wine. (He was
priest of
God Most High.)
(NIV)
The
Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
‘You are a priest for ever,
in the order of Melchizedek.’
(ESV)
The
Lord has
sworn and will
not change his
mind,
“You are a
priest forever after the
order of
Melchizedek.”
(NIV)
And he says in another place,
‘You are a priest for ever,
in the order of Melchizedek.’
(ESV)
as he
says also in another place,
“You
are a
priest forever,
after the
order of
Melchizedek.”
(NIV)
and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
(ESV)
being
designated by God a
high priest after the
order of
Melchizedek.
(NIV)
where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest for ever, in the order of Melchizedek.
(ESV)
where Jesus has
gone as
a forerunner on
our behalf,
having
become a high priest forever after the
order of
Melchizedek.
(NIV)
This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him,
(ESV)
For this Melchizedek,
king of
Salem,
priest of the
Most High God,
met Abraham returning from the
slaughter of the
kings and blessed him,
(NIV)
because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.
(ESV)
for he
was still in the
loins of his
ancestor when Melchizedek met him.
(NIV)
If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood – and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood – why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron?
(ESV)
Now if perfection had been
attainable through the
Levitical priesthood (
for under it the
people received the
law),
what further need would there have been for
another priest to
arise after the
order of
Melchizedek,
rather than
one named after the
order of
Aaron?
(NIV)
And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears,
(ESV)
This
becomes even more evident when another priest arises in the
likeness of
Melchizedek,
(NIV)
For it is declared:
‘You are a priest for ever,
in the order of Melchizedek.’
(ESV)
For it is
witnessed of him,
“
You are a
priest forever,
after the
order of
Melchizedek.”
