Lord said, ‘I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.

surely seen the
affliction of my
people who are in
Egypt and have
heard their
cry because of their
taskmasters. I
know their
sufferings,

And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them.

behold, the
cry of the
people of
Israel has
come to me, and I have also
seen the
oppression with which the
Egyptians oppress them.

That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and overseers in charge of the people:

foremen,

Then the slave drivers and the overseers went out and said to the people, ‘This is what Pharaoh says: “I will not give you any more straw.

The slave drivers kept pressing them, saying, ‘Complete the work required of you for each day, just as when you had straw.’

urgent,
saying, “
Complete your
work, your
daily task each
day, as when there
was straw.”

And Pharaoh’s slave drivers beat the Israelite overseers they had appointed, demanding, ‘Why haven’t you met your quota of bricks yesterday or today, as before?’

And the
foremen of the
people of
Israel, whom
Pharaoh’s taskmasters had
set over them, were
beaten and were
asked, “Why have you not
done all your
task of
making bricks today and
yesterday, as in the
past?”

For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And anyone, whether foreigner or native-born, who eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of Israel.
