About Levi he said:
‘Your Thummim and Urim belong
to your faithful servant.
You tested him at Massah;
you contended with him at the waters of Meribah.
(ESV)
And of
Levi he
said,
“Give to Levi your
Thummim,
and your
Urim to your
godly one,
whom you
tested at
Massah,
with whom you
quarreled at the
waters of
Meribah;
(NIV)
He will guard the feet of his faithful servants,
but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness.
‘It is not by strength that one prevails;
(ESV)
“He will
guard the
feet of his
faithful ones,
but the
wicked shall be
cut off in
darkness,
for not by
might shall a
man prevail.
(NIV)
‘To the faithful you show yourself faithful,
to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
(ESV)
“

merciful you show yourself
merciful;
with the
blameless man you show
yourself blameless;

‘Now arise,
Lord God, and come to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
May your priests,
Lord God, be clothed with salvation,
may your faithful people rejoice in your goodness.
(ESV)

now arise, O
Lord God, and go to your
resting place,
you and the
ark of your
might.
Let your
priests, O
Lord God, be
clothed with
salvation,
and let your
saints rejoice in your

while you may be found;
surely the rising of the mighty waters
will not reach them.

as food for the birds of the sky,
the flesh of your own people for the animals of the wild.

Lord,
“I will not be angry for ever.
(ESV)
Go, and
proclaim these words toward the
north, and
say,

faithless Israel,
declares the
Lord.

not look on you in
anger,
for I am
merciful,
declares the
Lord;
I will
not be angry
forever.
(NIV)
Finally, Daniel came into my presence and I told him the dream. (He is called Belteshazzar, after the name of my god, and the spirit of the holy gods is in him.)
(ESV)
At last Daniel came
in before me—he who was
named Belteshazzar after the
name of my
god, and in
whom is the
spirit of the
holy gods —and I
told him the
dream, saying,
(NIV)
I said, ‘Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no mystery is too difficult for you. Here is my dream; interpret it for me.
(ESV)
“O
Belteshazzar chief of the
magicians,
because I know that the
spirit of the
holy gods is in you and
that no mystery is too
difficult for you,
tell me the
visions of my
dream that I
saw and their
interpretation.
(NIV)
‘In the visions I saw while lying in bed, I looked, and there before me was a holy one, a messenger, coming down from heaven.
(ESV)
“I
saw in the
visions of my
head as I
lay in bed, and
behold a
watcher a
holy one,
came down from heaven.
(NIV)
‘“The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people.”
(ESV)
The
sentence is by the
decree of the
watchers, the
decision by the
word of the
holy ones,
to the
end that the
living may
know that the
Most High rules the
kingdom of
men and
gives it
to whom he will and
sets over it the
lowliest of
men.’
(NIV)
‘This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, had. Now, Belteshazzar, tell me what it means, for none of the wise men in my kingdom can interpret it for me. But you can, because the spirit of the holy gods is in you.’
(ESV)
This dream I,
King Nebuchadnezzar,
saw. And
you, O
Belteshazzar,
tell me the
interpretation,
because all the
wise men of my
kingdom are
not able to
make known to me the
interpretation, but
you are
able, for the
spirit of the
holy gods is in you.”
(NIV)
‘Your Majesty saw a holy one, a messenger, coming down from heaven and saying, “Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump, bound with iron and bronze, in the grass of the field, while its roots remain in the ground. Let him be drenched with the dew of heaven; let him live with the wild animals, until seven times pass by for him.”
(ESV)
And because the
king saw a
watcher, a
holy one,
coming down from heaven and
saying, ‘
Chop down the
tree and
destroy it,
but leave the
stump of its
roots in the
earth, bound with a
band of
iron and
bronze, in the
tender grass of the
field, and let him
be wet with the
dew of
heaven, and let his
portion be
with the
beasts of the
field,
till seven periods of time pass over him,’
(NIV)
There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners.
(ESV)
There
is a
man in your
kingdom in
whom is the
spirit of the
holy gods. In the
days of your
father,
light and
understanding and
wisdom like the
wisdom of the
gods were
found in him, and
King Nebuchadnezzar, your
father—your
father the
king—
made him
chief of the
magicians,
enchanters,
Chaldeans, and
astrologers,
(NIV)
But the holy people of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it for ever – yes, for ever and ever.”
(ESV)
But the
saints of the
Most High shall
receive the
kingdom and
possess the
kingdom forever,
forever and
ever.’
(NIV)
As I watched, this horn was waging war against the holy people and defeating them,
(ESV)
As I
looked,
this horn made war with the
saints and
prevailed over them,
(NIV)
until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favour of the holy people of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom.
(ESV)
until the
Ancient of
Days came, and
judgment was
given for the
saints of the
Most High, and the
time came when the
saints possessed the
kingdom.
(NIV)
He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.
(ESV)
He shall
speak words against the
Most High,
and shall
wear out the
saints of the
Most High,
and shall
think to
change the
times and the
law;
and they shall be
given into his
hand for a
time,
times, and
half a
time.
(NIV)
Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.”
(ESV)
And the
kingdom and the
dominion and the
greatness of the
kingdoms under the
whole heaven shall be
given to the
people of the
saints of the
Most High;
his
kingdom shall be an
everlasting kingdom,
and
all dominions shall
serve and
obey him.’
(NIV)
The faithful have been swept from the land;
not one upright person remains.
Everyone lies in wait to shed blood;
they hunt each other with nets.
(ESV)
The
godly has
perished from the
earth,
and there is
no one
upright among
mankind;
they
all lie in
wait for
blood,
and
each hunts the
other with a
net.
