This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:

and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.

Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
So all the
generations from Abraham to David were
fourteen generations,
and from David to the
deportation to
Babylon fourteen generations,
and from the
deportation to
Babylon to the
Christ fourteen generations.

This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about : his mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
Now the
birth of
Jesus Christ took place in this way.

his mother Mary had been
betrothed to
Joseph,
before they came together she was
found to be with
child from the
Holy Spirit.

When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.

nation and forbidding us to
give tribute to

saying that he
himself is Christ,
a
king.”

The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, ‘He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.’

The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (that is, the Christ).

which means Christ).

Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Messiah?
And here he is,
speaking openly,
and they
say nothing to
him! Can it
be that the
authorities really know that this is the
Christ?

But we know where this man is from; when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.’

and when the
Christ appears,

comes from.”

Still, many in the crowd believed in him. They said, ‘When the Messiah comes, will he perform more signs than this man?’
Yet many of the
people believed in him.
They said,
“

Christ appears,
will he
do more signs than
this man has
done?”

Others said, ‘He is the Messiah.’
Still others asked, ‘How can the Messiah come from Galilee?
Others said, “
This is the
Christ.”
But some
said,
“
Is the Christ to
come from Galilee?

Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?’
Has
not the
Scripture said that the
Christ comes from the
offspring of
David,
and comes
from Bethlehem, the
village where David was?”

His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue.

already agreed that if anyone should
confess Jesus to be

he was to
be put out of the synagogue.)

The Jews who were there gathered round him, saying, ‘How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.’

Jews gathered around him and said to
him, “

The crowd spoke up, ‘We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain for ever, so how can you say, “The Son of Man must be lifted up”? Who is this “Son of Man”?’

lifted up?
Who is this Son of
Man?”
